4/11/10 Update

Genesis Class,

Brad S. led us in the discussion about the Three Simple Rules: Do No Harm. Next Sunday Joy Anderson will join us to lead a lesson about mission work and discuss different mission opportunities available to us. The following Sunday we will continue the Three Simple Rules series. Again, if you have suggestions for lessons or would like to lead one Sunday, email Kristin (KristinShipman@texashealth.org) so she can give you the materials or discuss the lesson you want to bring.

Missions:

If you plan on volunteering for Amigos Days this Saturday, please make sure Brad M. (bradleyhmoulton@yahoo.com) knows that you are coming. Volunteers meet at the church at 7:45 a.m. We will take a bus or van to the work site. If someone has to leave early they can take their cars but there is limited parking space unless we string cars out all along the street. We would like as many as possible to ride the van. Lunch is provided, and we will take water and drinks. We will be scraping, painting and doing some outside reapirs. –Joy

Brad M. will be scheduling a tour of the Neighborhood Service Council this week or next with Cat and Ashley as they have expressed interest in attending and will report back to the class.

See Cookie Caper below for details about that.

See Radical Hospitality message below for details about the meeting Jerod and Hayley mentioned on Sunday.

See Children’s Summer Sunday School below for details about that. I would like feedback via email or in class by next Sunday if we want to participate this year and if anyone would like to be in charge of coordinating this. I can help with coordinating if no one wants to, but I know some people mentioned that they wanted to help with small projects along the way when we were discussing officer positions. I also want to make sure we have enough people that are able to volunteer before I commit for us. I believe those that have done it in the past said that it is pretty easy and really enjoyed it.

Socials:

Jeff and Jessica are working on planning the next social. Current ideas include Top Golf and a Polaroid Party (suggested by Canda) that sounds like a lot of fun.

Joys and Concerns:

Hayley’s grandmother had a difficult week with chemo. and radiation.

Hope you all have a great week and are enjoying this beautiful weather (minus the pollen)!

Cookie Caper

Friends,

The Cookie Caper is almost here and we need bakers! We currently have only 61 bakers signed up so far. Last year we had 230, and Joy would love to have that many again this year, if not more!

Each baker will need to bake at least 6 dozen homemade cookies. Bring your cookies in a disposable container to the Bartula Family Life Center on Saturday, April 24 from 12 - 4 p.m. Drop off/drive thru will be available so you can drop them off while you are out and about Saturday afternoon!

The Cookie Caper will be held the next day, Sunday, April 25 from 8:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m. All proceeds from cookies sold will go toward adult work camps, Amigos Days, and other missional causes. Your help and your cookies are greatly appreciated!

Please email Joy Anderson at janderson@fumcr.com to bake 6 dozen cookies for a great cause!

Children’s Summer Sunday School

Hi Jeff and Amanda,

Each summer (12 weeks) adults from several of the Sunday School classes sign up to teach a week or two of Sunday School for the elementary kids. (upstairs) Daniel has coordinated this for your class for the past 2 years.

I was wondering if you all would be willing to help us with this again this year? It is very easy – we provide the curriculum and all the supplies are set up in the room for you. All you have to do is show up and enjoy the kids! If you all are willing to help, I can email you a sign up sheet with all the dates on it. If each class has 2 members volunteer each week, we will have it totally covered!

Please let me know if your class would be willing to help again this year, and if so, I will email you a sign up sheet.

Thanks so much!
